This whimsical painting by Perna Krick (1909-1991) shows at a glance her compelling reduction of figures both human and animal. Originally from Greenville, Ohio Krick moved to Baltimore in 1927 to attend the Maryland Institute College of Art. While attending her classes she won two traveling scholarships to Europe. Later Krick was selected to do artwork for the WPA. Her work, both sculptural and painting, have been exhibited at the Peale Museum in Baltimore, the Baltimore Museum of Art, and the Corcoran Gallery of Art in D.C. Her depictions of animals won her particular acclaim. “The Bouquet” evokes the hopefulness of a suitor as he looks toward the place where his beloved lives. Perna Krick is in collections at the Baltimore Museum of Art and the Jewish Museum of Maryland.
