Jules Jacques Veyrasset (French b. 1828 d. 1893) Barbizon School, exhibited Salon de Paris. Most well known for his animal portraiture, particularly horses, and his landscapes of rural France. He was awarded the Chevalier de la Legion d’honneur by the French government for his excellence in etching. Many of his pieces can be seen in various French galleries, as well as the Clark Art Institute, the Walters Art Museum, and the Manchester Art Gallery. This painting was lined approximately 50-70 years ago and someone painted “J. J. Veyrasset 1851” on verso. They likely cleaned the name and information from either the original strainer, verso of linen before it was lined, or a plaque on the original frame. We are listing this piece at being attributed to Veyrasset for this reason.
